Malaiyathuvasan Alaiththa Padalam (மலையத்துவசன் அழைத்த படலம்)
"Malaiyathuvasan Alaiththa Padalam" is the 10th chapter in the Thiruvilaiyadal Puranam.
This chapter translates to "The Chapter where King Malayathuvasan Invited [the Lord]." It is a crucial transitional chapter that bridges the birth and upbringing of Princess Tadatakai (Meenakshi) with her divine marriage to Lord Shiva.
The Story
1. The Growth of Princess Tadatakai
Following the special blessings and the divine prophecy that the young princess would eventually rule and marry the Lord Himself, Princess Tadatakai grew up under the loving care of her father, King Malayathuvasan. She mastered all traditional martial arts, statecraft, scriptures, and governance, eventually succeeding her father as the absolute monarch of Madurai.
2. The Burden of Kingship and the Search for a Groom
As Queen Meenakshi, she successfully conquered the directions of the world and established a righteous reign. However, as she reached maturity, King Malayathuvasan and his royal ministers grew deeply concerned about her marriage. According to worldly laws and royal duties, a queen must take a husband to continue the royal lineage.
3. The Royal Consultation and Invitation
King Malayathuvasan called for a grand assembly of wise ministers, royal priests, and elders to discuss finding a suitable match for the mighty Queen—someone who could match her unmatched valor and spiritual stature.
Recognizing that no ordinary mortal prince in the world was worthy of marrying a sovereign who had conquered even the heavens, the King and his council formally resolved to invite the Supreme Lord Himself (Lord Somasundarar / Shiva of Madurai) to be her eternal partner, officially invoking and seeking the divine union.
